Munai, Lanao del Norte — Thirty high-powered loose firearms were voluntarily turned over by officials of the Municipality of Munai in Lanao del Norte to Lt. Col. Ronel Manalo, the commanding officer of the 5th  Mechanized Infantry Battalion in a simple ceremony in the municipal hall of Munai late last week.

The firearms that were turned over were: one caliber .50 Barret; three caliber .30 Browning automatic rifle; seven M14 rifles; 15 M16; four M653 Carbines; and assorted bullets.

The events was witnessed by Major General Roseller Murillo, commander of the Joint Task  Force Zampelan and Col. Robert Dauz, commander of the Joint Task Force Group Lanao del Norte with the municipal government officials headed by Munai Mayor Casan Maquiling municipal mayor.

The endeavor is the outcome of concerted and collaborative efforts between the military and the local government officials of the municipality. The initiative is part of the government’s program against proliferation of loose firearms in the implementation of martial law in Mindanao.

The military will continue its efforts against the proliferation  of loose firearms in collaboration with the local government officials in the area. Further, focused military operations and joint law enforcement operation will be continuously conducted against armed individuals and groups threatening the safety and well-being of the people, Manalo said.
