THE Pag-ila face-off of mayoralty candidates last April 30 at Xavier University Little Theater was a revelation of some sort. The candidates personally revealed their true selves by the way they behaved and by what they delivered during the forum.

One candidate may have deliberately misunderstood the smiles, giggling, and even laughter every time he mumbled his favorite demolition lie and line against the leading candidate.

Those who watched the face-off, physically and remotely, had one reason for the giggles, smiles and even laughter – they were “amused” at the broken-record candidate who had nothing new to mumble except the mudslinging lies and lines. It may be unclear to some others but the broken-record candidate was the object of the jeers.

Another candidate may have found in the face-off a venue where to release his pent-up emotions and frustrations.  Believing that he is the solution to all the problems of the city, he said his loss in the elections is the loss of the people.  Huh? Thinking probably that he has the monopoly of all good ideas and solutions to the ills of society, to him, all others who do not buy his antics are a failure.  Gi-apil-apil pa ko sa kagwang pero okay ra kay nagtinigulang ra na.

The candidate who won the hearts of many was the ever-humble Dr. Felix Borres. He was humble enough to admit it was impossible for him to win the election and even endorsed the candidacy of incumbent Mayor Oscar S. Moreno.

Dr. Felix said he has done so much for the city sans fanfare. I believe him, and I would advise him to just continue with what he has been doing and support the sure winner in the May 13 polls, Mayor Moreno.

The unperturbed Oscar was in his best composed self all throughout the proceedings, except and rightfully so when an unruly candidate continuously questioned the objectiveness of the moderator. To this, I remember The Oscar saying that if the unruly candidate continued with his antics, “tumpangan ko na ikaw!”

Dr. Felix Borres won the hearts of many for his humility and candor.  Mayor Oscar S. Moreno won the hearts of a majority of the Kagay-anons for his sincere, dedicated, empowering, and effective style of leadership and governance that brought the city government closer to the people, not to mention the unprecedented awards reaped by the city under his watch.

Busa maka-second na gyud si Dr. Felix Borres sa modaug nga si Mayor Oscar S. Moreno.
