By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent A DEMOLITION team yesterday destroyed 132 houses, displacing some 176 families in a slum in Barangay 31 yesterday. The demolition, ordered by Judge Eleuteria Algodon of  the 2nd branch of the Municipal Trial Court here, was carried out despite a resolution passed by the city council in late October that pleaded to the court to give city hall until March 30 next year to provide the relocation site for the residents. The residents, led by Cristina Casiple Ligtas et al., lost in a land dispute case filed by Silvan Gerald Sabio, a representative of De Oro Bayanihan. Acting city administrator Dionnie Gersana said the court neither granted or rejected the city council’s plea. “Wala  i-deny sa korte ang maong resolution, wala pud i-grant. Wala gyuy action,” said Gersana. The demolition came a day after city hall’s Task Force Demolition met and decided to work for the relocation of the 176 families to Barangay Pagatpat. The problem, according to Gersana, was that many of the affected families did not want to move to Pagatpat. The demolition team destroyed the houses that were mostly made of light materials, including one owned by the barangay’s chairperson, Delia Wabe. Councilor Leon Gan came  in a last ditch effort to stop the demolition. He brought a document signed by Judge Dennis Alcantar that supposedly gave residents one more month to prepare for the demolition. Gan said it was a status quo ante order, delaying the demolition by over an hour. But De Oro Bayahinhan lawyer James Judith said Gan’s assertion was a “disinformation.” He said the document from Judge Alcantar was dated June 4, 2016. “Kadtong iyang dala ni Kagawad Gan nga document, order man to ni Judge Alcantar, nga ipatubag ako sa ilang mga motion sa mga respondents, pero niadto pa man tong June 4 nga order. Dili man to order aron i-undang karon ang demolition,” Judith said.
