By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent “GENERALLY peaceful.” This was how police director Chief Supt. Noel Constantino described the observance of All Saints’ and Souls’ days in northern Mindanao. There was no “serious untoward incident” and the long weekend until yesterday, All Souls’ Day, “could be considered generally peaceful,” said Constantino after his return to Camp Alagar following a general inspection. But Constantino said it was unfortunate that a public jeepney figured in an accident in Barangay Tablon on its way to a cemetery in neighboring Bukidnon. The accident resulted in injuries to at least 15 people. Constantino said the Tablon incident was beyond the control of the police, and overall, “we are deeply pleased that our concerted efforts to secure the entire area of responsibility paid off.” Camp Alagar spokesman Supt. Surki  Sereñas said 287 police assistance desks were set up in key areas throughout northern Mindanao during the long weekend. Over 801 road safety marshals were also fielded to increase police visibility across the region. These officers exclude those that manned checkpoints and carried out patrols. (nitz arancon)
