REGIONAL State Prosecutor Jaime Umpa yesterday ordered a no-nonsense fact finding into the alleged fixing of cases in the City Prosecutor’s Office.
Umpa directed assistant regional state prosecutor Irene Mison to lead the investigation, and identify who among the prosecutors are “for sale” and who have been involved in the rigging of cases in exchange for bribes.
Mison was given two weeks to submit her report to him.
Umpa said Mison’s report would be a basis in the graft case that would be filed against any erring prosecutor before the Office of the Ombudsman.
Acting city prosecutor Merlyn Uy said she has been informed of the fact-finding work ordered by Umpa, and the City Prosecutor’s Office would cooperate.
Uy welcomed the move of the Regional State Prosecutor’s Office. Until Mison completes her work, Uy said prosecutors suspected of corruption would not be identified by her office. (nitz arancon)
