Iligan City — The victims of a fire that burned down 13 houses at Purok Kaplag, Ubaldo Laya Monday afternoon are presently housed at a chapel at the said barangay even as some opted to be with their relatives and friends. The fire began 1:30 pm and was declared controlled at 2:30 pm.

This was the statement yesterday by Inocencio Sailon, Ubaldo Laya chairman.  He said the victims numbering  26 families could not be housed at the gym of the barangay since this is still occupied by victims of another fire that occurred May of this year.

It was learned that the fire started at the house of a certain Jaime Pepito. This was reportedly caused by a charged cell phone left unattended. Sailon added that at present, he is looking for coconut lumbers in the effort of providing materials for the victims’ houses.

City  Fire Marshal Butch Baulete said there were no casualty in terms of lives or limbs even as he added that another fire on that day occurred at Purok 11, Barangay Tomas Cabili. The fire occurred 7: 20 pm on the same day and was put under control at 8:00 pm.

Former kagawad Apolinario Abao of said barangay said the houses were located so very close to each other hence the difficulty of the firemen to immediately control the fire.
