MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano’s trip to Vietnam caused the postponement of discussions on the provincial chief executive’s proposed P3.6-billion 2020 budget for Misamis Oriental.

Vice Gov. Jeremy Jonahmar Pelaez, who was named capitol caretaker by Emano, said the budget hearings have to be called off this week because the governor brought with him many members of the provincial board, including Wayne Militante, the chairman of the provincial legislature’s finance and appropriations committee.

Only Pelaez and provincial board members Josephine Mugot, Jerry Khu and Michele Anayron were left behind.

“Sila tanan tu-a sila sa Vietnam. Ilang gipananghid foreign travel ra man. Wala may nakabutang kung naa ba silay apilan nga expo,” Pelaez said.

Pelaez said the provincial board is now on “recess mode” this week and would re-convene next week.

The vice governor however said the Emano administration’s proposed 2020 budget was already approved on first reading.

Included in the proposed budget is a proposal to set aside P160-million budget for the provincial board, and Pelaez said he was hopeful this would be finalized when the deliberations resume next week.

He said the proposed budget for the provincial board increased by 10 percent or from P140 million this year.
