Iligan City — Rep. Frederick Siao had filed recently a bill that would make police officers under the supervision of the national government.

Verne Padilla, spokesperson here of Siao said that the present set-up of the police under the local governments makes them “beholden” to the local politicians. It seems that they are serving the ends of the local government officials instead of serving the people, thus the bill. This present up of having them under the local government and making them beholden to these officials is not only true here in this city but maybe all over the country as well, Padilla said.

To note, some funds for the police officers are also taken from the city’s coffers. The local government officials, to note, have also a say as to who would serve as the police director in the area.
