KIDNAPPERS had planned to bring the teenager they snatched in Maramag on Friday afternoon to another Bukidnon town but had a change of mind at the eleventh hour, police said over the weekend.
Instead of bringing their 17-year-old victim, Kyle Brent Asedilla, to Damulog town, the kidnappers brought him to Cagayan de Oro.
It was in Divisoria, this city, where Asedilla escaped from his captors just as they were about to transfer him to another vehicle.
“Padulong sa south ang ilang direction pero nausab tingali ang plano sa mga kidnappers kay didto man sa Cagayan de Oro nila nadala ang biktima,” said Maj. Gil Agpao, the police chief of Maramag town.
The 12th-grade student of the Philippine Community College (not Maramag National High School as reported earlier) ran away from his captors and cried for help near the corner of Tirso Neri and Tianos Bros. streets at around 9:24 pm on Friday. Police quickly secured him.
Police said the kidnappers were about to transfer Asedillo from a maroon van to another vehicle in Divisoria, providing the teenager with an opportunity to free himself.
Agpao said Asedillo was abducted near the PCC in Maramag at around 3:30 pm Friday.
Agpao said the teenager was just about 500 meters from the school’s main gate and was waiting to take a jeepney ride to his home in Kitaotao town when five men came and forced him into the van.
“Wala gyoy makasulti, ngano nga gikidnap ang maong biktima kay didto sa dapit diin siya gikidnap. Wala may nahitabo nga commotion,” said Agpao.
Police said they were facing a blank wall — no suspects have been identified and no motive has been established at press time.
“Nagpadayon pa ang atong investigation to determine unsay motive sa maong kidnapping,” Agpao said. (Nitz Arancon)
