THE provincial government of Camiguin has ordered local and foreign tourists to disclose their travel history during the past three months prior to their arrival to the island province as a measure against the spread of the deadly 2019 novel coronavirus.

Camiguin is one of the most visited areas in Region 10 due to its thriving tourism industry.

In an executive order, Gov. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo said Camiguin “is one of the tourist destinations in the Philippines making the introduction of the disease in the province a high probability.”

He said it is “important that precautionary measures and protocol are established to monitor the presence of the disease and make a timely response if it arises.”

The governor’s order has specified that it is mandatory for every tourist arriving in the province to declare their history of travel to the province’s health and local government authorities.

The order also includes Camiguin residents who have travelled to places where the virus has been proven to exist.

“Persons who have been to places where novel coronavirus is confirmed to exist are required to undergo a medical check-up,” the order said.

“Any person found to have been willfully hidden such required information when demanded shall be subject to investigation and applicable criminal prosecution,” it added.
