THE city epidemiologist today said he sees the number of recorded “persons under monitoring” (PUMs) due to the Covid-19 threat in the city to be down to zero tomorrow.

Dr. Joselito Retuya, the city epidemiologist, said this a day after he reported that there was no more “person under investigation” (PUI) in his team’s records.

Speaking during a press briefing at city hall this morning, Dr. Retuya said the remaining two PUMs would end their 14-day mandatory quarantine today.

“Ugma wala na’y PUM sa syudad,” said Retuya, adding that they have finished their contact-tracing work that involved 170 people in the city.

Records of the City Health Office show that from Jan. 3 to April 14, the city has had a total of 1,337 PUMs. Of these, 1,335 have completed their mandatory quarantine period with two cases due to finish today.

Mayor Oscar Moreno called on residents to remain vigilant and follow the guidelines set by the city government despite what he said were encouraging figures in the city that is trying to fight off the deadly virus.

Moreno said he was worried that people would begin to be complacent and forget the guidelines that the government has set.

“Wala pa nahuman ang atong pagkumbati sa virus,” Moreno said.

He reiterated that the city curfew is still being enforced, and it would remain under a community quarantine.

“The figures may look encouraging but the city is still not out of danger,” he said.

Meanwhile, Moreno disclosed that a patient from Iligan City died of severe acute respiratory illness at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) yesterday.

“Nakuhaan og swab pero wala pa miabot ang result,” he said. (Cong B. Corrales)
