SEVENTEEN Seventeen people who have had close contact with the 21-year-old road accident victim from Barangay Lumbia who had the novel coronavirus tested negative for Covid-19.

City Health Office chief epidemiologist Teodulfo Joselito Retuya said the initial rapid diagnostic tests showed that the 17 people, many of who are relatives of the deceased young man, had no Covid-19 infection. He emphasized that the rapid diagnostic tests or RDTs were just initial.

Retuya, however, said swab samples were taken from them and sent to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for polymerase chain reaction tests.

He said local health officials were not taking chances and want to make sure that the 17 people are fine despite findings that none of them displayed unusual symptoms.

Meanwhile, Retuya said the CHO is waiting for the results of the swab tests on six members of the family of a deceased 61-year-old woman from Barangay Carmen who tested positive for Covid-19. He said the test results will come from Cebu. (Abigail Malalis of CIO)
