Apprehended was Jenalyn Ganzan, 34, a resident of Zone 4, Barangay Poblacion, Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental, said the Phil. Army’s 4th Infantry Division said, in a statement.

Ganzan, the Army said, also uses “Macky” as an alias, and served as finance officer for the NPA unit HQ Nelsay of the Sub-Regional Committee 1, Northern Central Mindanao Region Command.

The suspect was arrested through a search and seizure warrant issued by Judge Fernando Fudalan Jr., of Regional Trial Court Branch 7 based in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, for the criminal cases of destructive arson under CC No. 6624 and kidnapping and serious illegal detention under CC No. 6527.

The issuing court did not recommend bail bond for the cases filed against Ganzan.

In an interview Monday, 1st Lt. Jefferson Mariano, spokesperson of the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion (58IB), said Ganzan did not resist arrest when she was apprehended by a joint team of government soldiers and police personnel from the 8th Infantry Battalion, Misamis Oriental provincial police, Tagoloan municipal police, and the PNP’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Northern Mindanao.

Mariano said Ganzan is an active member of the NPA and is reported to be constantly travelling to and from the mountains to facilitate the collection extortion money in the lowland.

He said they are still determining how much Ganzan has collected over the years, how did the NPA extort money from individuals or entities, and the identity of their victims.

In a statement, Lt. Col. Ricky Canatoy, 58IB commanding officer, said, “The AFP and PNP will continue to jointly operate in pursuing the terrorist group so that we can put an end to the influence of the terrorists in every community. We will remain vigilant against anyone who will try to disrupt the peace and order of the community.”

Canatoy has appealed to NPA fighters to lay down their arms and surrender to the government.

“I urge the remaining remnants of the NPA to return to the folds of the law, avail the government program under Enhanced Comprehensive and Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), and live with your families peacefully,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 58IB has retrieved a cache of weapons after engaging in a battle with the NPA in Barangay Quezon Heights, Balingasag town, Misamis Oriental on Sept. 1.

Recovered were a hand grenade, a carbine rifle and magazine, 40 rounds of ammunition, three backpacks and personal belongings.
