ABOUT 22 families in two zones in Barangay Bonbon and 25 families in one zone in Barangay Cugman were placed under containment after their residents tested positive for Covid-19, the City Health Office (CHO) confirmed yesterday.

“About 13 families living in a portion of Zone 1, Bonbon near a fish landing site beside a newly built bridge, specifically at a social housing site were placed under localized containment. Also, nine families in a portion of Zone 4, Barangay Bonbon living near the local high school were likewise placed under localized lockdown,” said Nic Jabagat, chief of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management, during Thursday noon’s press briefing.

About 25 families living in sitio Kalye Pogi in Zone 4, Barangay Cugman near the local slaughterhouse were also placed under localized lockdown, Jabagat said.

“The Covid-19 patient in Barangay Bonbon, also dubbed Case No. 978, is a government employee that traveled in some towns in the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Camiguin,” said CHO resident epidemiologist Dr. Teodulfo Joselito Retuya.

In Barangay Cugman, Dr. Retuya said the Covid-19 positive case was Case No. 871 who experienced an asthma attack and was rushed to the nearest hospital by neighbors.

“The medical officer assigned in the area was worried and asked us to place the area under containment as a precautionary measure,” Dr. Retuya said.

Jabagat said both Covid-19 patients in Bonbon and Cugman were brought straight to one of the city’s temporary treatment management facilities yesterday afternoon. He and Dr. Retuya both confirmed that the neighbors who carried Case No. 871 were brought to the city’s isolation units for observation and testing.

Jabagat said food relief aid was delivered to the three containment sites early morning and will continue for the duration of their two-week lockdown. Dr. Retuya said the containment site in Zone 5, Barangay 15 will be lifted Thursday afternoon while the containment in zones 2 and 5 in Barangay Kauswagan will also be lifted later in the evening.

“Our localized containment strategy had evolved since March. Essentially this is a localized lockdown but we take into consideration that the site isn´t too big that it will inconvenience those other areas and restrict movement but it isn’t too small that it will allow those people living in the affected to enter and exit the site any time they please,” Moreno said.
