As of 3 pm yesterday, the Department of Health counted 26 new Covid cases in the province, bringing its cumulative total to 567 since the first infection was detected in Libertad last June 12, this year. The PHO and DOH 10 have different cut-off days and time stamps.

The provincial health office of Misamis Oriental reported Tuesday that all towns, including two component cities, have Covid 19-infected residents, except Binuangan which has, so far, remained Covid-free.

Binuangan, a coastal sixth-class municipality situated 72 kilometers from the capitol in Cagayan de Oro, is the province’s least populated town with less than eight thousand inhabitants in eight barangays.

This, even as the PHO epidemiology surveillance unit has tallied 627 Covid-19 infections in the province, those who had positive results in reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction tests, as of 12 noon of Oct. 13.

Of the 627, the PHO infographic indicated that 289 of those infected had recovered, five had died, while 333 are “active cases,” either undergoing treatment in hospitals or quarantined in isolation facilities.

Based on the PHO count, Gingoog City was on top of “low-high” risk bar with 113 cases, followed by Tagoloan town with 88.

El Salvador, the other component city, has 29 verified infections and was lumped with “low” risk areas for infections, similar to Binuangan’s nearest neighbors, Salay and Sugbongcogon with 11 and three cases, respectively.

Also in “low” risk areas are: Initao (27), Manticao (19), Alubijid (18), Libertad (18), Lugait (17), Kinoguitan (14), Laguindingan (13), Gitagum (10), Naawan (10), Talisayan (9), Lagonglong (8), Magsaysay (8), Claveria (6), and Balingoan (2).

Those in-between the “low-risk” bar are the towns of Opol (51), Medina (46), and Balingasag (42), Villanueva (33), and Jasaan (32).
