Maj. Evan Viñas, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, said the fire wiped out the left wing of a building where the regional logistics division office was. There was no fatality and no one was hurt in the incident.

Viñas however disclosed that two Glock 17 9mm handguns with serial numbers 22907 and 46936 with four magazines of 92 live ammunition were damaged.

These pistols, he said, were issued to police staff sergeants Nino Rey Romanillos and John Benedict Balacuit, who hold office with Lt. Col. Aaron Mandia, the chief of the RLD. Two long firearms, police uniforms and personal belongings of RLD personnel were also burned.

The Cocpo spokesperson said that a red Toyota Innova, registered under Mandia’s name, and an Izusu Crosswind of PSSgt Michael Ondin, that were parked near the building were also damaged.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Roberto Tutor, investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection Cagayan de Oro Station, said they received the fire alarm 5:40 a.m. and responded immediately. Fire out was declared 28 minutes later.

Tutor estimated the structural damage at P200 thousand.

Maj. Peter l. Tajor, officer-in-charge of Cocpo station 4, is investigating the origin of the fire that ruined what used to be called as Maharlika building, Cocpo’s former headquarters.
