KAGAY-ANONS should ‘double down’ on their compliance of minimum public health standards following the recent rise of local Covid-19 cases in Cagayan de Oro City, Mayor Oscar Moreno said on Monday.

“Cagayan de Oro City’s critical care utilization rate is over 60 percent now. If it reaches 70 percent it’s now considered high risk. Though it can still be manageable, the reading alone of the CCUR can be very, very disturbing and damay tang tanan,” Moreno said during Monday noon’s City Hall press briefing.

This came after the City Health Office (CHO) reported 58 new Covid-19 cases for April 24-25 or two days after the city recorded 52 Covid-19 cases. In her daily case updates, acting City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery said about 33 Covid-19 cases were recorded last Saturday and 25 new cases were recorded last Sunday.

“The 33 cases consisted of two inmates, 15 local cases with links, nine (authorized persons outside residence) and seven local index cases. But the city recorded 32 recoveries last Saturday. On Sunday, the city recorded 25 cases consisting of 18 cases with links, one local APOR case, five local index cases and one death,” Dr. Nery said.

Most of the cases involved persons attending funeral and religious services or went on out-of-town trips. Aside from local cases, Moreno said the city’s CCUR is also affected by admissions of persons outside the city.

“The CCUR doesn’t take into account where you are so long as you’re confined in the city (or region’s) hospitals so the CCUR is affected,” Moreno said.

A local government’s CCUR is gauged on the number of isolation beds, mechanical ventilators and isolation units used for Covid-19 patients. A rating of below 30 to 70 percent is considered moderate while those above 70 percent as in the case of Metro Manila and the National Capital Region is deemed critical.

“What’s important now is for all of us to suppress the spread of Covid-19,” Moreno said.

During last Saturday noon’s City Hall press briefing, Dr. Nery said they will discuss with the Department of Health to address the discrepancies in the number of Covid-19 cases in the city and determine the declared number of beds for Covid-19 patients in each hospital in the city.

“That way, we can compute the accurate and actual picture of the city’s CCUR,” she said. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
