PARENTS will do everything for their children like abandoning a lost cause of the New People’s Army (NPA), military officials said Sunday.

In a statement, two NPA high-ranking members surrendered Friday with a firearm to the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion in Claveria Misamis Oriental.

Army’s 4th Infantry Division public affairs chief Major Rodulfo Cordero said the surrenders were facilitated by the military intelligence units through the assistance of former rebels.

Cordero identified the couple surrenderees as alias Venus, a former political guide of Squad 1, and alias Rene, team leader of Squad 2, both from SDG SAMSUNG, Guerilla Front Huawei, Sub-regional Committee 1 of North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC).

Alias Rene brought along one Garand rifle, and two clips of 30 cal. ammunition, said Cordero.

They both surrendered to seek government assistance and for the wellbeing of their children, according to Cordero.

“Wala man tay kaugmaon ana. Mamatay ra man gihapon.” alias Rene recalled a fellow comrade telling him before their surrender.

Rene also revealed that it is indeed true that there is no other future in the revolution except death.

Meanwhile, his wife, alias Venus who was critically injured during an encounter with the troops said she had intended to join his old colleagues who had already returned to mainstream society for a long time.

“Gusto pa ko katan-aw sa akong mga anak na mudako. Ug wala ko naigo sir, dili gyud nako mahuna hunaan, dili ko mag surrender.” alias Venus said.

58IB commander Lt. Col. Ricky L Canatoy lauded the couple on their decision to surrender.

“I recognize their bravery and courage in leaving the revolutionary movement,” said Canatoy, adding that the remaining NPA members in Misamis Oriental would do the same.

“Come down now and accept the government’s programs and services that are being provided to you,” said Canatoy.

He said that to surrender is for the NPA rebels’ own good and their  families’ futures.

“Surrender right now and begin living in peace within your communities,” Canatoy said.

The couple are presently in the custody of 58IB until their enrollment to E-CLIP is processed, according to Canatoy. (Ben Balce)
