ABOUT 30 out of the 102 Covid-19 positive cases recorded as of 10 pm of June 7 were aged 30 to 39 years old and half of the 102 remain under home quarantine, the City Health Office (CHO) said.

“The 30 to 39-year old patients belong to the working-age group while 21 persons aged 20 to 29-years old tested positive. Of these 102 cases, about 66 of them showed mild symptoms while 25 were asymptomatic and 11 patients showed moderate symptoms such as difficulty or shortness of breath,” said CHO resident epidemiologist Dr. Teodulfo Joselito Retuya Jr. during Tuesday noon’s City Hall press briefing.

In his daily analysis of the city’s Covid-19 cases, Dr. Retuya said the 25 patients who tested asymptomatic positive were mandated by their employers to undergo testing. About 16 of those cases were APORs (authorized persons outside of residence) who worked outside of Cagayan de Oro City and thus were required to undergo periodic testing.

“Of the 102 cases, about 40 percent of those with moderate symptoms were seniors aged 60 years old and above. While there were no cases of severe symptoms, the city recorded three deaths (as of June 7),’ Dr. Retuya said. But the city recorded 69 recoveries, raising the cumulative total to 6,191, said acting City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery.

Of the 54 or half of the 102 cases that are on home quarantine, Dr. Retuya said about 32 are local index or new cases who underwent walk-in testing in private laboratories.

“They were not isolated when they underwent swab tests,” he said.

About 19 out of the 54 home quarantine cases underwent testing at the Cagayan Polymedic Medical Plaza (CPMC) and 16 were tested at the regional Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Dr. Retuya said.

Dr. Retuya reaffirmed anew that the Covid-19 surge spiked at the end of April and continued to this day. Of the 853 Covid-19 cases recorded from last January to June 7, 2021, involving seniors aged 60 years old and above, Dr. Retuya said nearly half or 405 of them were recorded last May when the Covid-19 surge spiked. Both Dr. Nery and Mayor Oscar Moreno noted that the seniors were infected by family members either minor or APORs.

“About 203 of them were females and 202 were males. And of the 131 seniors who were vaccinated and tested positive since last March, about 70 of them were recorded last May and 60 of them in the first week of June. Of the 70 vaccinated seniors, about 54 of them received CoronaVac vaccines while 16 received AstraZeneca last May while 33 received CoronaVac, and 27 received AstraZeneca in the first week of June,” Dr. Retuya said.
