About 31 out of 81 Delta variant patients in Cagayan de Oro City tested negative while three out of nine of the eighth and latest batch (Sept. 12) of Delta variant patients also tested negative of the COVID-19 strain, the City Health Office (CHO) confirmed on Wednesday (Sept.15).

‘All first to fifth batches of Delta variant patients numbering 31 fully recovered after testing negative in their RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) tests. We received the test results of three (out of the nine still isolated) of the eighth and latest batch late Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 14) which came out negative. Hopefully we’ll receive the test results of the others by tomorrow (Thursday),’ CHO medical officer Dr. Ted Yu said during Wednesday afternoon’s City Hall press briefing.

In his report, Dr. Yu said they identified 15 close contacts of the eighth batch of Delta variants out of whom seven were immediately tested. He said they also hope to get the test results on Thursday this week.

Dr. Yu said they are still actively monitoring the sixth to eighth batches of Delta variant cases, some of whom were re-tagged after being verified to be residents outside the city. Of the 13 Delta variant cases that died, two were re-tagged as residents outside the city.
When asked by Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno about the close contacts of the sixth to eighth batches of Delta variant cases, Dr. Yu confirmed that all 56 close contacts were quarantined in the city’s isolation units.

‘Majority of the Delta variant positives were located in one area (and most of the close contacts that were isolated) were immediately tested,’ Dr. Yu said. The Delta variant-positive patients were placed in an isolation facility managed by the Department of Health (DOH-10) regional office.

‘What’s crucial about this is that all Delta variant positive patients and their close contacts were isolated and if they test positive (they cannot infect others)…the recent drop in COVID-19 cases logged by the city from triple to double digits showed how well we handled the Delta variant cases since we know that Delta variants are more infectious than the original COVID-19 strain,’ Mayor Moreno said.
