HARRY James Ravelo Marzon probably played more than any of the local musicians around in many different bands in Cagayan de Oro.

While he can sing and dance, he’s more proficient behind the drum kits and in blowing the horn as a reliable percussionist and trumpeter too.

With his kindred spirit, easy to-go-with company, and being a lighthearted chatter that fits well his naturally gifted comedic gesture whenever he likes to, the “big daddy” Harry was indeed everybody’s friend.

He’s massive when there is music that the entire local music industry was overwhelmed with grief and sorrow after his sudden untimely passing on Saturday.

“Got so carried away that I literally broke the G-string. Just lost my freaking mind and my heart’s bleeding bad. Such a sad day for a very good friend,” guitar virtuoso Noel Popera, who now lives in Tianjin, China, posted on his Facebook wall.

Mawala gyud imo problema every time makita nimo or ma storya si Harry. Thank you Choi for the memories,” said former bandmate guitarist Tyke Elizaga.

Harry’s older brother and legendary drummer Jojo Marzon told Gold Star Daily that the face of “Rock ‘n Roll’s Golden Friendship” met his premature demise due to cellulitis on his right leg. He did not elaborate.

Na infected iyang samad sa tiil, then pareha nako diabetic nag sepsis daw siya, gipa hospital ta’s na comatose siya ganina buntag (Saturday), namatay siya pagka hapon of sepsis,” added one of his former bassist Ian Cornelius Callanta.

His remains now lie in state at Divine Shepherd Funeral Homes in Barangay Bulua with no announcement yet on the schedule of his burial.

Nawad-an ‘ta og maayong poste,” both the Sammakami, Inc, and CMAA ― the leading music groups in the city where Marzon was affiliated ― said in separate statements.

During the pandemic, the multi-instrumentalist Marzon managed to carry on with his family financially by imparting his drum skills to aspiring young musicians from anywhere through virtual online teaching.
