PRESIDENTIAL candidate, former Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr vowed to continue the projects of President Rodrigo Duterte if given the chance to seat in Malacañan Palace after the May 9 Elections.

In a press conference here this afternoon, Marcos said he will continue Duterte’s Build, Build, Build Program and the controversial war on illegal drugs.

He added that he is eyeing a railway for Mindanao because he believes that it will further boost the economic progress on the island.

“(A) railway is still better than spending on road projects. Malaki ang paniniwala ko sa railway kung minsan sa aking palagay mas maganda lagyan nang railway kay sa kalsada,” said Marcos.

He said he believes that a railway system is still the cheapest way to commute goods and people across the island.

Marcos pointed out that despite the efforts of Duterte in developing Mindanao, the island is still lagging behind the rest of the country. The reason, he said, is that he will continue the projects of the outgoing President.

“Mindanao is still behind as an island group in terms of development, still behind Luzon and Visayas. Kailangan, we have to be able to catch up Mindanao to the rest of the country,” he told reporters here.

He cited the insurgency problem on the island as the main reason why it lags from the rest of the country.

“So, nagkakagulo, walang papasok na negosyo. Walang papasok na bagong project. It’s time to fulfill the promise of Mindanao,” he said.

Until now, Marcos said he is still hoping and “crossing his fingers” that President Duterte will endorse him. But should the endorsement not come, he added that it is enough that the President’s daughter Davao Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is running as his vice president.

The press conference preceded Marcos’ grand rally held at the Pelaez Sports Complex. However, many senior reporters in the city were dismayed for not being invited to the press conference. Almost half of the reporters who covered the press conference were brought in from Iligan City and Bukidnon, it was learned.
