ONE can almost hear a pin drop in the deafening silence at the regional campaign headquarters of presumptive President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr, and presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte, here.
Three days after the general elections, there was neither a festive atmosphere nor throngs of supporters present at the Uniteam Headquarters along the Rodelsa Circle in downtown Cagayan de Oro.
One of the volunteers, who asked not to be named, said that he cannot discuss what their activity was, but he hinted it had something to do with monitoring the election tally.
When asked if there were plans for a victory celebration or thanksgiving mass, he replied in the negative.
“Ga hulat ra mi sa pagka karon pero wala pa man mi na dawat nga information para ana,” he said.
However, at a former café turned into a headquarters, Uniteam campaign tarpaulins turned facing inward were used to cover the glass facade.
Inside, volunteers were intently glued to the monitors of their computers and hardly talking with each other. It could not be ascertained, with a casual glance, what they were actually doing online. The mood was intensely silent.
A few lines scribbled with blue and red markers on one of the tarps outside read: “#WalangTulugan, #SeaofRed, #SeaofRedRegion10, #Halalan2022.”
