SECOND-ranking elective official Jocelyn Bebot Rodriguez who won by a landslide victory of 178, 162 votes assumed as the new city Vice Mayor of Cagayan de Oro Thursday.

Rodriguez even vowed to make institutional reforms in the City Council by providing equal opportunities for each member regardless of political affiliation to participate in the legislative processes, a right which she was neglected in her term as Councilor.

“Promote healthy debates and caucuses among members of the majority and minority to ensure that ordinances are drafted and approved under the judicious procedure,” assured Rodriguez.

She added that the SP should be people-centered and proactive, especially during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

“To improve the life of every Kagay-anon is when government programs are anchored on championing human dignity,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said she will also focus on refining the approaches used in developing the programs on health, education, employment, and development or HEED.

Rodriguez ran under the campaign of transparency, accountability, and excellence in performance which are consistent with the values and principles espoused by her party, the Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines or CDP.

This is in consonance with and in support of the HEED program of Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez being the representative of CDO in the national level.

To be more specific, the new vice mayor, Rodriguez will focus on initiatives for health, women, and youth empowerment.

This is where her legislative agenda will revolve with the help of the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, according to Rodriguez.

On Health, she said the Sanggunian will work on proposals that will further enhance the delivery of health services in the barangay level, especially on mental health.
Employment opportunities should be made available for women especially those belonging to the marginalized sectors specifically the single parents, Rodriguez stressed.
For the youth, she said legislative measures will be geared towards their holistic development, primarily focused on education, employment, and social development.

Acknowledging the importance of synergy, she pledged to cooperate with the Executive Office to improve the quality of government services and advance the interests of the people of the city.
