ILIGAN City ― Will the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections be held Dec. 5 of this year? Lawyer Annaliza Barredo, election officer of the Commission on Elections here cannot categorically say so.

This was on a statement to reporters over the weekend, adding that there isn’t any law yet being passed on its postponement, hence they are proceeding with the preparations.

It will be manual, she said unlike the past election this May which was automated.

The election period, she added would be October 6 to January 4, 2023, even as the filing of the certificates of candidacy will be on October 6 to 13 of this year and for the city’s 44 barangays.

Printing of ballots, she said is “centralized” and right now, they have been partially printed. The city has around 185,000 voters with over 5,000 new registrants. The registration of new voters, she added was done on July 23.

Does congress have the time to pass a law for the postponement of said elections? She answered in the affirmative.

For the Sangguniang Kabataaan voters, they have to be within the range of 15 to 30 years old, but those who are over 26, they can no longer run for the posts of SK officials.

The city, to note, has a total population of 310,000.
