DIGOS City ― A 50-year-old fish vendor is now languishing in jail for shooting an 18-year-old student at Purok-2B, Barangay Baylo, Monkayo, Davao de Oro shortly before midnight of May 23.

Lt. Colonel Jerry Cabag, Monkayo police chief identified the suspect as Julieto Cañete Quijada, a resident at the place of the incident.

The victim, Justin Buyose Sister, a resident of Purok-3A, Barangay Baylo sustained a lone gunshot wound in the back of his body from a still unknown caliber of handgun, the police report said.

Police investigators found out Sister was at the waiting shed in Purok-2B, Barangay Baylo that night with two other female students when Quijada arrived at the area, approached them, scolded Sister, drew a handgun from his waist, and shot the victim once before walking away from the place of incident.

Sister was rushed to Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital in Montevista town for immediate medical attention.

Cabag said the immediate police pursuit operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect who confessed that he shoot Sister due to a personal grudge.

Quijada is currently in police custody pending the filing of charges against him in a court of law.
