One of Cebu City’s prominent institutions the Southwestern University (SWU) – PHINMA on Saturday successfully launched its onsite enrollment and scholarship examination in Cagayan de Oro as well as other parts of Mindanao dubbed as the “Spotlight Caravan”.
The said activity aims to encourage students to take up professions that are not only competitive, and in demand in their respective industries but also meaningful and worthwhile. The Spotlight Caravan also provides a venue for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for incoming college freshmen through the SWU – PHINMA scholarship program by bringing the university’s services closer to students from various parts of Northern Mindanao.
In Cagayan de Oro alone, over a hundred attendees joined and took part in the examination and activities lead by SWU — PHINMA held on Saturday, May 27 at SM CDO Downtown Premier where representatives from different colleges shared some insights that may help them make a sound decision in choosing their course.
The Spotlight Caravan is one of Southwestern University PHINMA’s activities that brings the university’s various programs closer to aspiring students by bringing its services closer to students in Mindanao. The said activity was launched in Butuan, Surigao, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, Pagadian, Iligan, and Zamboanga.
According to Loisse Valdehueza, a fresh graduate of Xavier University – Ateneo De Cagayan Senior High School (XUSHS) who wish to earn a nursing scholarship from Southwestern University –PHINMA said “Tungod sa ilahang guina-offer na scholarship maka-lessen sa hago sakoang parents para dili kaayo bug-at sailaha part. If ever maka dawat ko ug scholarship.”
Lester Libongcogon, a graduate of Lanao Del Norte National Comprehensive High School said if given an opportunity he would like to take up Dentistry.
“I chose PHINMA because of the quality education that they provide. If given the opportunity to receive a scholarship from an exceptional school, I would take this opportunity to take up Dentistry,” He said.
The said forum was lead by the Faculty Doctors of the College of Optometry of SWU – PHINMA, Dr. Angelica Faye S. Sanchez, College of Dentistry, Dr. Nicole Gasalatan, and Veterinary Medicine program Dr, Phil Alilin. The following speakers also provided free dental, eye check-ups, and pet consultations.
It can be recalled in 2022 SWU-PHINMA has produced topnotchers in Optometry clinching the top 1, 3, 5, 8, and top 10 from its 65 newly licensed Optometrists; Top 1 in Dentistry and the only 1 performing Dentistry school in the country; and in March this year as the only private Veterinary school in the top 10. #TheBestYou #SWUforTheBestYou
