From July 11-16, 53 people learned how to make bamboo boards, a key part of ‘Silyang Pinoy’.

From July 24-28, they learned how to make the actual ‘Silyang Pinoy’ furniture at the Bamboo Pavilion in Bukidnon.

After the training, they made ‘Silyang Pinoy’ tables and chairs.

These chairs and tables can change into other types of furniture.

They are also eco-friendly because they are made of bamboo.

This matches with the government’s goal to use more sustainable materials.

This project in Bukidnon is the first ‘Silyang Pinoy’ project in the region.

The goal is for the trainees to make ‘Silyang Pinoy’ furniture for schools, since the Education Department wants 25 percent of all school desks and tables to be made of bamboo.

This project was made possible by Rep. Alba.

He asked the Science Department to help local bamboo furniture makers.

They learned from experts how to work with bamboo.

Rep. Alba said that using bamboo for furniture can help stop tree cutting.

He wants more people to make furniture from bamboo because it’s a good alternative to using hardwood.

The trainees plan to keep making furniture from bamboo.

The Science Department wants to help improve the bamboo industry and support furniture makers in Bukidnon.

On August 11, there will be a public hearing about selling ‘Silyang Pinoy’ furniture.”
