ILIGAN City ― When Mayor Frederick Siao took over the running of the city after last year’s elections, he declared “We will take back the garbage.” So the main actor in this concern is the city government itself now It was understood. With the barangays themselves given only the supporting role. Unlike in the immediate past admin.

Naturally, the barangay officials were pleasantly surprised. They couldn’t tackle this particular concern with them as the leading actors.

I remember then, during the time of the city mayor of the late Camilo P. Cabili, there was a move by the city to purchase an “incinerator.” That is, a piece of equipment that will “cleanly” dispose of the city’s garbage by burning it inside it. Maybe, well, and good.

But the trouble was, there was talk that garbage from other areas outside the city and even from outside the country would come here and be “incinerated” or burned here! So there were many reactions to the matter, some of them violent.

Naturally, the move didn’t push through.

Speaking of garbage from other areas that would come here, I remember some garbage from Canada that came over to Misamis Oriental. Was it Tagoloan? To the dismay of the people from Northern Mindanao. So politicians from these areas made much noise. Even then Pres. Duterte made some noise. An Afro-American stand-up comedian by the name of Trevor Noah quoted Du30 as saying to the Canadians to welcome back their garbage with all the fanfare. Hahaha.

But this ain’t no laughing matter! Though I don’t know if the Canadians themselves made some LOL themselves.

Now, it’s fiesta time. And I heard Engr. Maria Badelles David of the DPWH here appeals to the residents in the city and nearby environs that they should not dump their garbage here. For it is duplicating their efforts. Aside from concentrating only on what they are doing, like repairing roads, they have to clean the roads of garbage first. Because even those who are just passing through this city, dump their garbage here, along the way. Oh, by the way, I saw on FB this post: That in the US, it takes 2 days for this broken road to be repaired. In Japan, it takes 6 days to have this broken road repaired.

But in PH? It is “repaired even if it’s not broken!

Anyway, this is fiesta time now for the city. And we Filipinos are known to put our best foot forward during this time. Like putting up buntings and flaglets, putting up curtains in our respective homes, and yes, cleaning up the garbage. So, there’s now the weekly clean-up time too, again, just as when this Siao admin had done a year ago. Although I think they have slowed down in that aspect, otherwise this DPWH engineer would not have commented on that.

But oh, while we are at it, I’d like to ask who will clean up that garbage of a tarp now almost torn in half by time. Which was then giving some info on the Palao market project. Although the garbage mostly is. by force of gravity are seen on the ground, this one is being cradled by the wind.

Who will dispose of this particular garbage hanging in the still unfinished “world-class” Palao market? Is it Celso G. Regencia who’s the former mayor here who is now a congressman, or his supporters? And his name is still visible there, along with the VM Jemar Vera Cruz…

Or will it be the current mayor Frederick W. Siao? And will this hanging garbage of a tarp be disposed of?

Well, there are some lyrics of a song that say, “The answer my friend is blowing in the wind…”

Oh, but excuse me. This has become a lot of garbage talk. It’s now time for garbage out…
