OVER 100 scholar-leaders, school-based officers, and community-based officers participated in a leadership camp organized by the City Scholarships Office called ‘Katig.’ 

The camp took place recently at Pilgrim Christian College and Gardens of Malasag in the city.

Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy himself attended the leadership camp and shared his knowledge and extensive experience in public service, emphasizing the importance of teamwork as a leader.

Also present at the event were City Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba, Interim President Dr. Jestoni Babia of City College of Cagayan de Oro, City Mayor’s Office Consultant Jordan Apat, City Scholarships Office Head Richel Petalcurin-Dahay, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan National Service Training Program Formator Jinkee Gonzales, and MeldCx Vice President Thor Turrecha.

The Katig Scholars’ Camp is an annual event aimed at showcasing the remarkable stories of scholar-leaders and nurturing their leadership potentials, according to Sheila Lumbatan, Chief of Staff at the Mayor’s Office.

Lumbatan said the camp provides a significant opportunity to empower and inspire young individuals by creating avenues for their development and instilling the necessary skills for leadership. 

She said even the mayor (Uy) commended all the participants for their dedication and enthusiasm in their pursuit of personal growth and in serving others.

The camp was held under the theme “The Path to Growth: Building Leaders for Progress.” It is a major initiative of the local government to support education and contribute to the development of leaders in the community.

“Through the Katig Scholars’ Camp, the city aims to foster a culture of leadership and empower young individuals to become agents of positive change in society,” said Lumbatan. 

The camp provides a platform for them to showcase their abilities and enhance their leadership skills, said Lumbatan.

She added Mayor Klarex expresses gratitude for meaningful event, emphasize youth investment for city’s progress.

Lumbatan stressed Mayor Uy emphasized the importance of investing in the youth and equipping them with the necessary tools to become effective leaders who can contribute to the progress and prosperity of the city and its people.
