MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano yesterday called on all sectors to work together and come up with a comprehensive plan to bring evacuees, now camped on the sixth day at the capitol grounds, to their homes in Kamansi, Banlay, Lagonglong, this province.

The capitol said some 60 families, mostly Higaonon, fled their homes for fear of being caught in a crossfires in their village.

“It all started with some miscommunicaton, and the zeal of others to pursue development programs,” Emano said.

He said any resident of the province has the same and equal right to come and seek refuge in any place or property of the provincial government, and “we have to respect that right especially if one perceived that his life is in danger.”

Emano has ordered capitol offices to provide the necessary assistance to the evacuees.

He said that as part of the social responsibility of the capitol employees, one department or office of the provincial government would be taking care of the evacuees, and this would continue as long as the evacuees are camped at the capitol grounds.

“We even have our staff from the Provincial Library giving some remedial lessons everyday to evacuees of school age so as to lessen the effect of missing their classroom instructions,” Emano said.

He also assured the evacuees that rice, corn and vegetable seeds would be given to them as soon as they return to their village in order for them to resume their farm work.

Speaking on behalf of the group, a purok leader said they were forced to go to the capitol grounds after they were shunned by their town government on three occassions.
