“Necessity makes even the timid brave.”––Sallust

RIGHT after Mayor Oscar Moreno announced his doomed reelection bid, outgoing Councilor Alexander Dacer confirmed the creeping suspicion that his gravely ailing “boss” (from the looks on the face and body language, excluding the stilt) will seek a “grudge fight” come May 9, 2015 elections in our City of Golden Friendship.

To ensure a teleserye extravaganza, Kagawad Dacer injected the possible scenario of Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, my most outstanding congressman, running for the city mayor, too. The “intrigue” (which is actually the undeniable truth) is that the Rodriguez Dynasty was largely responsible for the humiliating defeat of the definitely ailing Sendongkoy in the 2013 elections.

But what is difficult to swallow is the buzz: Mayor Moreno is not even capable of putting up a complete credible ticket for next year’s elections. The word on the street is that Mayor Moreno is now having a dose of his own medicine even while sweet-talking the chairperson of Nazareth, Bebot Rodriguez, sister of Congressman Rufus, to be his running mate. The later allegedly refused by saying she would rather remain in Nazareth as a barangay councilor since her term is also ending next year.

All barangay officials in our city know that of the five city councilors belonging to the Moreno team in the 2013 elections, only Councilor Roger Abaday is still loyal to the mayor. But the posturing is only because my sangay is graduating and he is hoping against hope he would be chosen as Moreno’s running mate.

The rest of Moreno’s former team are busy having photo-ops with Congressman Rodriguez. This is not even to mention that out of our 80 barangay chairpersons, Mayor Moreno does not even have one––66 of them are Sendongkoy’s while the rest are chairpersons of either congressmen Rufus or Klarex.

From my end, I surmise that the only possible reason why no one wants to be identified with Moreno is because the mayor has consistently denied even token favors for his own councilors preferring instead his so-called capitol-powerhouse and out-of-town business cronies who are raking huge in their “dairy milking business.”

“Necessity is often the spur to genius.”––Balzac”

Because I am not a gambler, I don’t know their ways and even their lingo. But the widespread betting today is not whether or not Mayor Moreno will win against Sendongkoy. Rather, the betting is on whether or not the latter beats the former by more than 21,000 votes. This is the kind of talk that sends shivers to upright if not, intellectuals in our City of Golden Friendship.

If only I had a magic wand, I would change the greedy heart of Sendongkoy and make him “anoint” Councilor Nadya, an amiable lawyer untainted by the “sins” of both her father and her husband, as the common mayoral candidate of the Padayon Pilipino and the poor people of our city, with either the wife of Rep. Klarex Uy or the sister of Rep. Rufus as the vice mayoral candidate. One of them can head the city council team of all-women.

Come to think of it, it would be a scintillating fresh woman’s world. Who knows, it could make our city the model for a changing world of politics from the trapos of the unlamented greedy old world to the new patsadas of the new order. Further, by so doing, we could concentrate on helping make Congressman Rufus a senator and “Super Digong” Duterte, the first ever President from paradise-like islands of Mindanao. What do you think?

Tsada, di ba?

“In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can to do me.” –Psalms LVI. 11

Thank you Lord for everything. And Lord God, kindly teach our leaders to practice honesty, humility and transparency in their solemn task as our servants-leaders because those who have less in life are the sovereign and very source of their borrowed power and wealth. Finally, Lord, please make our leaders see the glaring light that greed is a flawed way of life. For truly, there is more profit in giving than in taking. For it is in giving that we receive. Truly, love begets love. Amen!
