VALENCIA City– As part of the city government here to continue its effort in combating the effect of climate change and the devastating effect of flash floods Mayor
the City Government of Valencia headed by City Mayor Azucena P. Huervas in cooperation the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the City Disaster Risk Reduction Committee launched the Pantaron Range-Laligan River Ridge to River Watershed Rehabilitation Project last June 9, 2015 at Brgy. Banlag.

The project  covering 60 hectares, was designed to be planted  with lumber and agricultural crop species within 3 years.

The project was aimed at reducing the adverse effects of climate change specifically in areas vulnerable to landslides and rain-induced erosion.

The local government has allocated P1 million pesos for this project that will be taken from the 70 percent prevention and mitigation component for calendar year 2015 of City Risk Reduction Management Fund for its re-design program.

It was learned that the implementation of the project will benefit the local residents as this will give them the opportunity to earn as they plant the area with coffee seedlings, bamboo seedlings as well as falcata seedlings that were given to Brgy. Captain Jovy A. Boje of Brgy. Banlag together with Datu Romel Masaloon, Datu Mandagwayon and company.
