Marawi govt checks prices as Ramadhan officially begins today

MARAWI’S leaders are doing the rounds in the Islamic city’s major thoroughfares to check on prices as part of a Ramadhanelated campaign to enforce government rules.

Upon moon sighting, religious authorities declared this day as the start of the Holy Month of Ramadhan. The 2nd National Muftis and Ulama assembly held in Sequoia Inn, Davao City, adopted resolutions on Consensus on the moonsighting on Ramadhan 2015, and requesting the trade and industry department, and other similar government agencies to monitor price increases of commodities during the month of Ramadan.

As of yesterday, a day before the Ramadhan proper, the task force led by Marawi Mayor Sultan Fahad Salic’s representative went to Marawi’s markets to inform the public about the enforcement of rules on garbage, pricing and peace and order.

A component of the task force, “Operation Kilo,” is to address the overpricing of products especially by vendors or establishments which use illegal weighing scales so that fruits, ingredients (of staple meals) or agricultural products weigh heavier and thus cost more.
Strict security enforcement, signages with hotlines are proposed, aside from police and security visibility.

This is the output of the second Peace and Order Council Meeting attended on Tuesday by provincial police director Thello, Army Brigade commander Roseller Murillo’s representative Maj. Osop and Mocsana (Marinaut), Councilors Ambolodto, among many others. The meeting of the City Peace and Order Council was presided by DILG-Marawi chief Sahera Ibrahim and Councilor Abdani Alonto.

Lasureco also updated of a resolution by two-way radio announcers appealing for the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to raise the provision of energy to 35 megawatts from the current seven megawatts. Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. has endorsed the resolution to the NGCP.

Marawi has more than 200,000 residents and is home to the country’s largest number of Islamic schools, Mindanao State University and traders.The Ulama of the Darul Ifta Armm and the city’s Religious Affairs also updated of daily radio program plans, proposing that gambling be looked into, and noise from music of pedicabs be toned down during the holy month.

Pursuant to Civil Service Resolution no. 81-1277, in relation to PD no. 291 as amended by PD no. 322, which modified the Civil Service official time to 7:30 am -3:30 pm without noon break and diminution of salaries and wages for all Muslim employees, all officials and employees of the Armm are to observe the modified official time during the Ramadhan.
