DAVAO City – The Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMPC) has issued a special service campaign for Toyota Front Passenger Airbag. Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, TMPC’s First Vice President for Government and Industry Affairs of its Corporate Affairs Group, said that these particular Toyota Front Passenger Airbags of Toyota Corolla Altis were produced from May 2001 until March 2007 and Toyota Yaris were produced from September 2006 to March 2007. The statement was issued in a letter to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary for Consumer Protection Group Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba dated 26 May 2015.  Gutierrez said that the special service campaign covers 13,228 units of Toyota Corolla Altis and additional 358 units of Toyota Yaris officially sold in the Philippines.

The Front Passenger Side Airbag inflators may have been assembled with improperly manufactured propellant wafers and could trigger the inflator to rupture which may cause the front passenger airbag to deploy abnormally in the event of a crash.
“As a preventive measure, Toyota will replace the Front Passenger Side Airbag Inflator Module Assembly with a new one, at NO COST to our customers,” Gutierrez stated.

Ambi said Dabawenyos who bought a Toyota Corolla Altis or a Toyota Yaris produced during said period may also contact the nearest DTI office should they have clarifications or some other concerns relative to this advisory.
