CAGAYAN de Oro Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy’s chief of staff Sheila Lumbatan announced good news on Friday following the city hitting its targets for getting taxes and renewing business licenses. This shows that Mayor Uy’s RISE agenda, his plan to improve the city, is on the right track.

Just four days before the extended deadline of February 29, 2024, the city’s Business Permit Licensing Division (BPLD) has reported that Cagayan de Oro has already achieved its goal of 20,000 business permit renewals.

Lumbatan said the city has seen an impressive number of 20,086 business permits renewed along with 1,311 new business registrations from the start of the year until February 25.

The current figures show an increase from the previous year’s tally of 18,523 renewals during the same period, indicating a growing confidence in the local economy and the business environment fostered by the city government.

“The increase in renewals is a testament to the city’s thriving business community and the trust in the local governance,” said Lumbatan.

The City Government, Lumbatan said anticipates an even higher number of entrepreneurs to complete their business permit renewals and registrations by the end of the deadline on February 29.

Earlier, business owners are encouraged by the city mayor to finalize their permits to avoid the impending penalties for late payments.

In terms of financial achievements, Cagayan de Oro has collected a remarkable P6 billion in local business taxes, as declared by City Administrator Atty. Roy Hilario Raagas.

This revenue forms a crucial part of the city’s development budget, alongside the national tax allotment provided by the National Government.

Lumbatan also explained that the funds generated from local tax collection are earmarked for various development programs that are aligned with Mayor Klarex Uy’s RISE agenda.

This agenda focuses on Regional Leadership, Institutional Development, Safety and Security, and Economic Recovery, which are all key areas that contribute to the ‘Seal of Good Local Governance’ program.

Mayor Uy’s administration has made it clear that enhancing the quality of services offered to the residents of Cagayan de Oro is paramount, according to Lumbatan.

The successful tax collection and permit renewals are not just figures on a balance sheet; they reflect the administration’s dedication to providing its constituents with improved public services and a strong commitment to the city’s overall development, she added.

The city’s success in meeting its tax collection goals is a promising indicator of the positive direction in which Mayor Klarex Uy is leading Cagayan de Oro.

“The administration’s focus on good governance and service enhancement is set to bring about a brighter future for all Kagay-anons,” said Lumbatan.
