BUTUAN City––Camp Crame’s intelligence chief assumed as the new director of the National Police for Caraga on Wednesday.

Chief Supt. VertTinio Chavez took over as Caraga’s police chief, and then met with Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr., chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC). Amante graced the turnover rites at Camp Rafael Rodriguez in Barangay Libertad here.

Chavez replaced Chief Supt. David Ombao who retired from the police service.

Prior to his new assignment, Chavez served as executive officer for intelligence of Camp Crame. He was also police director for Naga City in Region 5 in 2010.

Chavez is a member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class ’85, and is a holder of Master’s degree in Government Management.

Chavez said the Caraga police would step up its campaign against insurgency, illegal drugs and illegal gambling in the region.

He said Camp Rodriguez would also be strict with police officials and their men, and would impose a “one-strike policy” especially when it comes to illegal gambling operations in Caraga.
