POLICE director for northern Mindanao Lyndel Desquitado has ordered a fresh crackdown on illegal lotto outlets in the region because of complaints aired by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

Chief Supt. Desquitado warned that he would replace those who would not comply with his order. He said his basis is simple: if the illegal activities persist in an area, it means the local police heads are unfit to remain in their positions.

Desquitado’s order came after Raul Regondola, PCSO manager for northern Mindanao, announced that the PCSO was cutting all financial and medical aids in the region by 50 percent due to its revenue losses. PCSO’s income here reportedly dropped from P135 million  to P55 million allegedly due to the illegal outlets. (lito rulona)
