DAVAO Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, if he becomes President, says he would like to raise the salary of each ordinary policemen to at least P50 thousand per month plus allowances. Indeed, when a policeman’s take home pay after deductions comes to a few thousand only, that certainly won’t be enough, much more when the cop has a family to support.

But please include our soldiers, our teachers, our ordinary government employees, and our wage earners.
No money? Tell that to the “kawatan” in the government.

When ordinary policemen take home a few thousands only yet see their officers enjoying lifestyles not commensurate to their real earnings, then they will ask questions, feel envious, and be tempted to do bad things. The same goes to our soldiers, government workers and teachers.

Our policemen and soldiers pay with their lives to maintain peace and defend the people. They deserve dignified take home pays.

Government workers and teachers also need a raise to answer so they could live a decent lives. With pay increases, the government must also demand efficiency, productivity, honesty and loyalty.

To counter the huge appropriation for these increases, the government can trim down the bureaucracy, get rid of the excess baggage in every department and abolish redundant offices.

Efficiency can be attained if government requirements to accomplish matters are simplified. As it is today, things are intentionally made complicated when they can be done easily. It is when the requirements are made voluminous that corruption comes in.

With higher pay, he who dares disobey Duterte will get his comeuppance.

Someone posted on Facebook photos of four possible candidates for mayor in the city. One commented: Wala na bay lain?

For me, this is a positive sign that at last, people are looking for someone totally different, not a politician and honest.

Cagayan de Oro has many. Ordinary citizens, businessmen, civic leaders, professionals and what have you. They’re qualified but unfortunately, they shun politics.

Then here’s Atty. Carlo Antonio Almirante who posted colors representing a particular person or political group. I commented, “The green is coming.”  The coming election is going to be very colorful. At least, in our beloved city.
