MAYOR Oscar Moreno announced over the weekend that the Liberal Party and its allied groups would likely field Nazareth barangay chairperson Jocelyn Rodriguez as his candidate for vice mayor in next year’s elections.
Rodriguez, for her part, said she was willing and ready to be Moreno’s running mate. But nothing is final yet, according to Moreno as he explained that the selection of his running mate would still undergo a process that would involve members of the LP and its political allies.
“Ipaagi man gyud kini sa consultation kay dili man mahimo nga usa ray magbo-ot,” said Moreno, adding that his party has yet to finalize his 2016 ticket.
He revealed that he has started talks about the possibility of the Nazareth barangay chairperson seeking the city’s second highest post.
Moreno said he talked with her brothers Reps. Rufus and Maximo Rodriguez, and Rep. Rolando Uy of the city’s first district about this, and he told the congressmen that he wanted the barangay chairperson to be his running mate next year.
He said he and Rodriguez’s brother Rufus talked about this for hours last week during a flight from Canada where they attended the “Tapok International” organized by Cagayanons.
“Taas-taas sab ang among panagsulti sa eroplano,” said Moreno. “Wala man usay supak si Congressman Rufus nga si Kapitan Bebot ma-oy akong kandidato pagka vice mayor.”
Moreno however said he was waiting for the Rodriguezes to make a decision. The mayor however has started doing the rounds with Ms. Rodriguez. On Thursday, he was with the barangay chairperson as he turned over a two-story 16-classroom public school building in Barangay Pagatpat.
