FORMER Councilor Dulce Ytem is not happy with how our city is being run by our current crop of city officials. As such, he is toying with the idea of running for an office again.

He prides himself of having clashed with prominent lawyers in the city and at the City Council. He authored the Traffic Management Bureau, providing public toilet in parks, and the trisikad. Trisikad? I thought it was Ninong Juan Sia who is the father of trisikad. So, Ytem claims that it was Juan Sia who was opposed to it. Now, I stand corrected.

He was also for the construction of overpasses and underpasses. But as far as I can remember, he was better known for the strict implementation of the helmet law.

Is he serious? Rudy Emano is a permanent fixture in the group of Plazans at Limketkai mall. One day, Ytem asked Rudy to tell Dongkoy Emano that he would like to run again under Dongkoy. Dongkoy allegedly said, “Ingna Dulce nga tigulang na siya.”

How old is Dulce, above 70, perhaps? But he certainly doesn’t move and feel old. Whatever, it is his right to run and seek public office. Good luck to you, Brother.

Either Cagayanons don’t give a hoot at all about what our city officials are doing and involved in or simply prefer to treat them as subjects for gossips and be entertained by all these talk.

It was suggested that citizens should come together and seek for truth but none has come out so far. The “Managsilingan” could have been the most ideal group since it was instrumental in convincing Rep. Rufus Rodriguez to support Oscar Moreno then. Sadly, the people behind this group prefer to be silent or so it seems.

While we join the nation in crucifying Jejomar Binay for his alleged sins, nothing is heard from concerned citizens about what’s going on inside city hall and all the talk about certain people. Our partisans are making us silent partners to certain crimes happening at City Hall. Maybe, we are just good fencesitters.

I received an e-mail from National Food Authority (NFA) regional information officer Ma. Celeste Gaabucayan. It was a press release aimed at allaying fears about the existence of fake rice.

With due respects, I am not quite convinced. Dibutyl Phthalate is a chemical compound mixed in making plastic soft and pliant. If it was a mere contamination caused by mishandling, there was never any mention in the supposed thorough investigation about where the chemical came from and how it was mishandled. I find the press release too simplistic.

I was in Davao City last month and asked some Davaoeños about it when another story of fake “bihon” or “tanghon” was being talked about.

I remember a post on Facebook about a video on the making of the fake rice. I googled it. If the video is real, then there must be more than just 25 grams in the market.

Who discovered it? How was it discovered? Where in particular? Where are the rest of the uncooked rice? How many more fake items from China will make it to the front pages of our papers? The last I heard was a fake island!
