In a move seen to change Cagayan de Oro’s political landscape, the city’s 2nd District representative to the Lower House announced that he would join next year’s race for the mayoral post.

The announcement came in time for Rodriguez’s birthday.

A three-cornered fight has started to shape involving Mayor Oscar Moreno of the administration Liberal Party, ex-mayor Vicente Emano of the Padayon Pilipino, and Rodriguez, the leader of the Centrist Democratic Party.

Rodriguez, in high spirits, first announced his decision to run for mayor over local radio this morning.

Later, he told the Gold Star Daily who pressed him for comment: “Yes , I am running for mayor.”

Rodriguez said he would run for the city’s top post because he wants to replicate what he has done in the 2nd District in the 1st District.

“The people of Cagayan de Oro will choose,” said Rodriguez. “It’s up to the people to make adjustments… We are giving them (Cagayanons) more choices.”

He said he would run for mayor with a track record of “genuine service” and his work speaks for itself.

Rodriguez also confirmed that his wife Fenina would run for congresswoman in the 2nd District to ensure the continuity of his projects there.
