Iglesia Filipina Indepen-diente (IFI) Bishop Felix-berto Calang cried foul over SPO3 Rolando Gomonit––the armed man who disrupted a conference of human rights advocates on Masspec Bldg., Tiano Bros. St. on Friday afternoon––who has threatened to sue members of his clergy for allegedly harassing him after he was caught spying on them.

Gomonit is the team leader of the Regional Intelligence Unit assigned in this city.

Calang said Gomonit was caught spying on them. Arresting officers from Police Station 1 seized a 9mm Beretta pistol from Gomo-nit’s possession.

Gomonit threatened he will sue IFI leaders for harassment.

Calang, for his part, denied his clergy harassed Gomonit but it was the other way around.

“He was given a glass of juice drink and no harassment happened,” said Calang.

Nagdala gani ug armas while (doing) his surveillance,” Calang added saying that should Gomonit continue with suing them then the latter would have to “invent” another version of what happened last Friday. Mag himohimo siya og storya and this is another case of a trumped-up case against human right defenders. This will only show that there is indeed a state-sponsored harassment, surveillance and persecution against defenders of human rights.

We won’t be cowed and silenced though,” stressed Calang.

Gomonit alleged that he was manhandled by IFI Bishop Felixberto Calang, Fr. Christopher Ablon, Bro. Mark Gavia, and three others.
