REP. Rolando Uy yesterday repeated what he said last week: he may not run for reelection or for any other position next year.

Uy said this even as he expressed frustration over what has become of his political allies two years after they made history as the first group to cause a reelectionist mayor to be voted out of city hall.

He complained about how “boisterous” local politics have become, adding that he no longer wanted to be a part of it. “Dili na ako modugang sa kayagaw. I am not after power, I am after of service to people,” Uy said.

In the end, he said, it would be up to Cagayanons to choose who they want to be their leader but he added that the city should not be allowed to become what it was under the Emano administration.

But Uy’s chief of staff, Shiela Lumbatan, said the congressman was likely not serious about the pronouncement about his possible retirement.

Uy first talked about his possible retirement a day before his counterpart in the 2nd District, Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, announced he would run for mayor next year.

Uy said he lacked resources to run another political campaign next year. He repeated this in yesterday’s interview with this paper.

Lumbatan said, “Basin nagti-aw ti-aw ra to si congressman kay ingon ana man gyud na siya––kusog magti-aw ti-aw.”

She added: “Unsa-on pagkulang sa resources nga kadato ana ni congressman?” In another development, Uy said he welcomed the announcement of his lawyer Evangeline Carrasco that she would run for congressman in the 2nd District next year.

Uy said Carrasco is still his chief legal counsel, and “it’s her right to seek public office.” (alwen saliring and nitz arancon)
