The HPG officers started in the highway in Kauswagan near the Maharlika Bridge, a known traffic bottleneck during rush hours.

Cagayan de Oro police traffic director Supt. Dominador Estrada said the HPG, RTA, the traffic unit of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), and Task Force Hapsay Dalan agreed to help each other in managing the vehicular traffic flow in the city and in the enforcement of traffice rules.

Estrada said the agreement was forged on Thursday after HPG regional director Senior Supt. Elizabeth Velasquez welcomed the proposal to duplicate here what the HPG has been doing to help the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in decongesting Edsa.

“This is a joint operation… to ensure the smooth flow of traffic especially on roads where traffic jams often occur,” Estrada said.

Engr. Nonito Oclarit, RTA administrative officer, said the traffic flow improved on the highway in Kauswagan because of the HPG’s help.

“Kon mo-expand nata sa ubang dalan, na-a kanunay ang Highway Patrol Group labi na sa panahon sa peak hours,” said Oclarit.
