VALENCIA City––Despite being convicted and slapped with perpetual disqualification from public office, ex-mayor Jose Galario Jr. filed his certificate of candidacy, challenging the bid of his successor, Mayor Azucena Huervas, to win a mayoral election next year under Gov. Jose Ma. Zubiri’s Bukidnon Paglaum Party.
Galario, considered a fugitive, filed his COC through a representative, Eladio Luardo, as a bet of the United Nationalists’ Alliance (UNA).
Huervas, who became mayor by way of automatic succession in 2014 following Galario’s conviction, is also being challenged by former mayor Leandro Catarata.
Another mayoral aspirant, machine specialist Daniel Gamuza of Sugarland Subdivision, Barangay Lumbo, this city, also filed his COC.
Radyo ni Juan owner Renato Centillas, a provincial board member, also filed his COC for mayor thinking that he was Galario’s bet. He was disappointed when Galario filed his COC late afternoon of Oct. 14, the same day Centillas filed his. Centillas said Galario broke their agreement.
Galario’s son Glen is running for vice mayor, raising speculations that the plan is that in the event that he and his father win next year, and the elder Galario is disqualified, Glen would assume the mayoral post.
The younger Galario is challenging the bids of Vice Mayor Rolando Lavina and Ma. Luisa Boquil Eduave.
