Commission on Elections (Comelec) officer for Buenavista town Grace Palma confirmed yesterday that former priest Alberto Parajes has dropped out from the race on Tuesday. Parajes filed his COC under the local party Kusog Agusanon-Nacionalista Party (NP). Parajes used to be a director of Agusan del Norte Electric Cooperative (Aneco).

Palma said Parajes did not state why he withdrew his candidacy.

But on the same day, Parajes’s political party nominated businessman Joselito Talan Roble as a substitute candidate.

In the May 2013 elections, Roble ran for mayor but lost to incumbent town mayor Norbert Pagaspas of the Liberal Party.

Pagaspas is seeking reelection under the same party like reelectionist Agusan del Norte Gov. Maria Angelica Rossdel Matba.

Roble, on the other hand, is running under the group of the governor’s brother, Rep. Agusan del Norte Erlpe John Amante of the province’s 2nd District who is seeking reelection under Kusog Agusanon-NP coalition.

The Amante siblings have been politically at odds after the two formed their own political groups.
