REP. Rufus Rodriguez of the city’s 2nd District over the weekend said he would file a bill in order to exempt Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach from being taxed for her winnings even as he proposed that he, Mayor Oscar Moreno, and Vice Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas organized a “Rainbow Coalition” grand welcome for the beauty queen who has called the city as her second home.

Rodriguez said he would file the House bill on Jan. 4 so that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) would no longer compel Wurtzback to pay a tax.

He said he would also file another resolution for the Lower House to officially congratulate Wurtzbach for winning the much coveted Miss Universe crown, and to make her as an “ambassador of goodwill.”

“Dako ang atong garbo kon si Wurtzback ma-oy atong ambassador of goodwill kay bisan asa siya mo-adto isip ambasador, iyang pirma madala ang ngalan sa Cagayan  de Oro,” Rodriguez said.

Wurtzbach lived with her family in the city when she was a child, the reason why she referred to the city as a hometown. She was an elementary grader at Corpus Christi in Macasandig.

Rodriguez proposed that he, Mayor Moreno, Vice Mayor Acenas, and Rep. Maximo Rodriguez Jr. of Abante Mindanao come together to organize an activity in honor of Wurtzbach in the city.

He opined that Wurtzbach can make him, Moreno and Acenas set aside partisan politics even for a moment.

“Kami ni Congressman Maxie, orange. Si Mayor Moreno, yellow. Si Vice Mayor Acenas, violet. Mahitabo ang ‘Rainbow Coalition’ kon mosugot si Mayor Moreno ug Vice Mayor Acenas nga magkahiusa kami aron paghatag sa dakong pasidungog ug pag-welcome ni Pia,” said Rodriguez.

He said Wurtzbach deserved a warm reception in the city free of partisan politics.
