CAMP Alagar on Monday “decommissioned” a dozen 12 high-powered firearms, and ammunition as part of the “demilitarization and disposal” of guns laid down by an erstwhile secessionist rebel group.

Police regional director Chief Supt. Lyndel Desquitado said the firearms and ammunition belonged to the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) that were turned over to the Provincial Police Office of Lanao del Norte last year.

The turnover, Desquitado added, was part of the peace process between the government represented by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (Opapp) and MNLF commander Abedin Sanguila.

Desquitado said the police had to destroy the firearms so it would not be used by lawless elements.

“Dili man pud mahimo nga i-pagamit kini sa atong mga police kay maka-violate man ang gobyerno sa  agreement sa peace process tali sa MNLF. So gubaon gyud kini nga mga pusil,” said Desquitado. (nitz arancon)
