THE capitol yesterday kept mum on provincial administrator Ma. Caridad “Maricar” San Jose’s absence but claimed that the lawyer has resigned, and that Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano has already accepted it.

This came even as Emano named lawyer Jocelyn Mateo as San Jose’s replacement.

Mateo started serving as acting provincial administrator yesterday. The lawyer would also hold on to her position as head of the capitol’s human resources department.

The capitol announcement came the same day this paper quoted various sources in a report who said that San Jose has already stopped reporting for work, and that she was already “out of the loop” following an alleged spat with the governor two Wednesdays ago.

Assistant provincial administrator Carol Lim said San Jose sent Emano a resignation letter last week, and that the governor issued Memorandum GYVE 2016-774 that showed that he has accepted it.

Lim however said Emano’s acceptance of San Jose’s resignation did not mean that the former provincial administrator would no longer be subjected to clearance requirements.

Lim read Emano’s memo that reads in part: “Accepting the resignation of Atty. Ma. Caridad San Jose, the Provincial Administrator,  subject for clearances.”

Pressed for more details on San Jose’s “resignation,” Emano declined to comment and neither did he show nor discuss the contents of his former provincial administrator’s letter.

One of Emano’s aides, Misamis Oriental Integrated  Sport Council head Gerardo Sabal, said San Jose resigned due to “family matters.”

“Para sab mahatagan ni Atty. San Jose sa dako nga panahon ang iyang pamilya, gidawat ni Gov. Emano ang iyang letter of resignation,” Sabal said.

Sabal said San Jose still has a two-year old child who needs to be taken care of by the mother.

San Jose, an ex-girlfriend of Emano’s, served in the capitol since  2013, and until her “resignation,” was among the most influential and powerful people in the provincial government.

Speaking during the Monday flagaising ceremony at the capitol, Emano announced that Mateo would serve as acting provincial administrator.

“I welcome Atty. Mateo as our acting provincial administrator, and also, I would like to thank Atty. Maricar (San Jose) for all that she has done for the province of Misamis Oriental… Everybody knows that she, too, has done a lot,” said Emano.

He said San Jose would continue as his personal consultant “for my political and personal matters.”

San Jose, whose whereabouts remain unknown at presstime, has not issued a public statement.
